Ospreys in the Community WSA Membership Testimonial

Ospreys in the Community have been members of the Welsh Sports Association for over five years and Tom Sloane, Community Foundation manager at the organisation, has revealed how their affiliation to the WSA has supported in their work.

When we joined, we were a young charity looking to build insight and partnerships within the sector. The WSA offered a cost-effective opportunity, with an extensive opportunity to collaborate.

Initially the DBS system provided us with an excellent opportunity for us to ensure the safeguarding of our participants. As we have grown as an organisation, we have benefitted from a range of opportunities such as advocacy, CPD and partnerships.

With the support of the WSA, we have also developed our administrative function and forged closer partnerships with other likeminded organisations in the sector.

The WSA has played one of a number of key roles in our growth over the past 8 years, as we have moved to a team of 18 staff with significant partnerships in place.

Tom went on to describe how WSA support has aided Ospreys in the Community‘s EDI work.

The WSA have provided a variety of resources and information that has assisted us in ensuring that EDI is at the centre of our delivery.

Access to both the CPSU and Ann Craft Trust training, DBS service and facilitating our collaboration to wider organisations has enabled us to increase the work we deliver across communities.

Over the past 5 years we have delivered projects such as disability rugby, specific girls rugby programmes, educational opportunities in some of the most deprived areas in Wales, supported people in isolation and begun tackling mental health issues in men.

He continued to detail how the organisation’s experience working with the WSA had been.

Our experience with the WSA has been excellent. They provide lots of information and are always willing to help.

The services have evolved over the years and the team have always been on hand to support with queries. Our membership has enabled us to receive key information that would have otherwise been missed as we don’t fit traditional sports networks.

Throughout COVID-19 the advocacy and information that was provided by WSA was extremely helpful and valuable. Without the support of the WSA we wouldn’t have received the information.

Tom concluded by revealing whether or not he’d recommend the WSA to other sporting bodies in the sector.

We would 100% recommend WSA membership!

They offer a wide range of services and offers that provide invaluable support for all sports organisations. We have seen great benefit from new collaboration and partnerships we’ve been able to access, so the membership fees provide excellent ROI.
