{"id":20252,"date":"2020-03-05T08:54:50","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T08:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wsa.wales\/?p=20252"},"modified":"2024-01-03T15:26:37","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T15:26:37","slug":"flooding-support-and-future-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/cy\/flooding-support-and-future-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Flooding support and future protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recent flooding has had a devastating impact on communities across Wales.<strong> <\/strong>All households affected by flooding throughout Wales will receive \u00a3500 from Welsh Government, with an extra \u00a3500 available to those without house insurance cover, but many business and sports organisations will also have been damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welsh Government is asking for those impacted to speak with their <strong>local authority emergency support teams<\/strong> in the first instance, to ensure the system is as quick and effective as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency in Wales which  protects the environment, Natural Resources Wales, has advice on their website here on W<strong>hat to do before, during and after a flood. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have been affected by the flooding and are looking for financial support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You may be eligible for an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/discretionary-assistance-fund-daf\"><strong>Emergency Assistance Payment grant from the Welsh Government<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wcva.cymru\/funding\/help-wales-after-storm-dennis-fund\/\">Welsh Council for Voluntary Action will be administering a Fund<\/a><\/strong> set up by Michael Sheen to support victims of storm Dennis \u2013 this includes community groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/grants-search.turn2us.org.uk\/\"><strong>Turn2us is a national charity providing practical help to people who are struggling financially<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for businesses affected by storms Ciara and Dennis is available from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/get-help-and-support-your-business\"><strong>Business Wales<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Welsh Government\u2019s Community Facilities Programme provides grants of:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/community-facilities-programme-application-form-grant-between-ps5000-ps25000\">Community Facilities Programme: Between \u00a35,000 to \u00a325,000<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/community-facilities-programme-application-form-grant-between-ps25001-ps250000\">Community Facilities Programme: Between \u00a325,001 to \u00a3250,000<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdr_6YghG-IRis0iej6jJGGOxAH0WuYmR92OyrUJT4QJ_OQEA\/viewform\">Tennis Wales Flood Relief Fund<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interlink (RCT) Community Flood Grants <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>RCT Council Local Grants<\/strong> after Storm Dennis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PyCCommunity\/status\/1234767646702415872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwterm%5Eprofile%3APYCCommunity&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpenycymoeddcic.cymru%2Fapply-for-funding%2F\">Pen Y Cymoedd Community Fund<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>With climate change meaning\nthat incidences of significantly heavy rainfall will become more frequent, what\ncan be done to improve flood defences and protect our homes and businesses?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we cannot avoid heavy rainfall, we can implement improved measures to better manage flooding and protect both residents and businesses. In a bid to combat the impact of climate change, the Welsh Government has a programme to invest \u00a3350 million into traditional flood and coastal defences to make communities more resilient against flooding and coastal erosion and has set up a \u00a310m emergency fund to help with the immediate aftermath of the recent floods, but the cost of infrastructure damage and the investment needed to address the climate emergency will go far beyond this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, the threat of flooding simply cannot be prevented or mitigated for some properties, in which the best course of action would be to move to a safer area.
