{"id":25819,"date":"2022-05-30T13:49:34","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T12:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/?p=25819"},"modified":"2022-05-30T13:49:36","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T12:49:36","slug":"rya-cymru-wsa-membership-testimonial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/cy\/rya-cymru-wsa-membership-testimonial\/","title":{"rendered":"RYA Cymru WSA Membership Testimonial"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RYA Cymru WSA Membership Testimonial <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gerwyn Owen was CEO of RYA Cymru for three years and, before he left the role at the end of May 2022, spoke to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/cy\/\">Welsh Sports Association<\/a>&nbsp;(WSA) about how membership has aided him and his organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gerwyn began by explaining why&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rya.org.uk\/gbni\/rya-cymru-wales\">RYA Cymru<\/a>&nbsp;have remained members over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We\u2019ve always wanted to be part of the wider sports sector, trying to be one voice rather than us all going to different stakeholders as separate entities. The benefit of having that umbrella organisation, which the WSA is, to represent us at the table of said stakeholders in certain situations has been key \u2013 more so of course since the COVID-19 Pandemic hit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>They\u2019ve really identified what their role is within the sector and now bring real value to all those within it. The benefit they bring to us as an individual organisation really outweighs any other reason why we shouldn\u2019t be involved \u2013 the real question is why shouldn\u2019t we be members!&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gerwyn continued to outline the support he\u2019d felt from the WSA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>What\u2019s been worth its weight in gold and has given me, personally, a huge amount of help has been the governance and leadership support. As well as benefitting me, it\u2019s enhanced the organisation, of course. &nbsp;<\/p><p>I was a new CEO three years ago and the level of support that was offered allowed me to bed in, understand, and define where our organisation was going \u2013 purely by engaging with those governance and leadership resources that were provided to us.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The support through the Pandemic has been brilliant.&nbsp;<\/p><p>There\u2019s been one voice for the sector when communicating with Welsh Government, negotiating, gathering information and disseminating information while also allowing us as an organisation, despite our differences, to discuss with certain departments\u2019 heads.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>Fundamentally, I\u2019d say that, without the WSA, the sporting sector wouldn\u2019t have been able to come through the couple of years we\u2019ve had so successfully. They embedded the working groups which in turn fed into Welsh Government.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>That identified that the sector was working together and, through that, the WSA has clearly shown what its value is to the sector while remaining thoughtful as to what we wanted in terms of a response and support \u2013 and why any organisation ought to be a member.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I get in touch with the WSA for various situations \u2013 whether it be for training programmes through Steffan or guidance on policy through Matt, for example \u2013 and each time it\u2019s been an open door.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>No silly question is left unanswered, so to speak \u2013 even when they undoubtedly had 50 or 60 members asking the same question during the Pandemic!&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gerwyn concluded by summarising what it meant to be a member of the WSA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>For any organisation, the value of being members outstrips the cost because of the level of service you receive in return; membership opens doors for you and ensures that you\u2019re a fit and able company to
