{"id":30624,"date":"2025-02-14T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/?p=30624"},"modified":"2025-02-14T11:56:09","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T11:56:09","slug":"darren-davies-named-community-captain-for-premier-league-more-than-a-game-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wsa.wales\/cy\/darren-davies-named-community-captain-for-premier-league-more-than-a-game-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"Darren Davies named Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Darren Davies named Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Welsh Sports Association (WSA) member Cardiff City FC Community Foundation has named Darren Davies as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of their commitment and contribution to the game and society.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the next two weeks, the&nbsp;<strong>Premier League<\/strong>&nbsp;and clubs will be celebrating&nbsp;<strong>\u2018More Than A Game\u2019<\/strong>&nbsp;and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Premier League is investing \u00a31.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of \u2018More Than A Game\u2019, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains \u2013 individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Darren has been chosen as Cardiff City\u2019s 2025 Community Captain because of his incredible commitment to his community and impact on families in Merthyr Tydfil. On Saturday 15<sup>th<\/sup> February, Darren will be recognised with a Community Captain presentation at the Bristol City fixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Darren has been at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation for four years, working across our&nbsp;<strong>Premier League Kicks<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Inclusive Kicks<\/strong>&nbsp;sites in Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil, Ebbw Vale, and Abertillery. Their <strong>Inclusive Kicks<\/strong> programme was designed to provide these sessions for neurodiverse children that improves wellbeing, confidence and increases social interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through Darren\u2019s passion for community, he\u2019s single handedly built a sense of belonging, purpose and togetherness at <em>Merthyr Kicks<\/em>, creating a true family atmosphere. The site has flourished under his leadership, growing the site into a highly engaged session, week on week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gavin Hawkey Director at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThanks to the support of the Premier League Charitable Fund and individuals like Darren, we&#8217;ve been able to make a real difference in our communities. This has enabled us to achieve a record-breaking \u00a333.4 million in social impact value for the 2023\/24 season\u2014an impressive increase from \u00a317.9 million the previous year. This means that for every \u00a31 invested, \u00a319 of social value is generated. None of this would have been possible without the Premier League\u2019s generous funding, helping us to change lives and transform communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jamie Thomas Premier League Kicks Coordinator at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation said: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Darren is a true asset to Premier League Kicks and an incredible role model for the young people and families he supports.
