This negative parental behaviour takes away from a child\u2019s experience of sport or their desire to continue participating within sport, as they no longer see taking part in sport as fun.<br \/>\nTo combat the negative impact a small minority of parents have on sport the CPSU have teamed up with a vast number of nationwide National Governing Bodies to promote the huge contribution parents can have on their child\u2019s involvement in sport by celebrating the first Parents in Sport Week on the 3rd \u2013 9th October 2016.<br \/>\n<strong>The aim of Parents in Sport week is to:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 encourage sports organisations and clubs to promote the positive role parents play in helping children reach their full potential<br \/>\n\u2022 empower parents by sharing information regarding key roles they can do as a sports parent in supporting their child\u2019s participation, success and fun, and therefore retaining a child\u2019s interest in sport<br \/>\n\u2022 assist coaches and officials to understand the crucial role parents have in a child\u2019s participation and continued involvement in sport<br \/>\n<strong>Ways that sports can get involved in parents in sport week<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Speak to high-performance and well-known athletes about how their parents supported them \u2013 either film them or write an interview piece for your club magazine<br \/>\n2. Hold seminars for club welfare officers \u2013 focus on how to positively engage with parents<br \/>\n3. Organise a family BBQ fun day with themed competitions and parents&#8217; awards, voted for by the children<br \/>\n4. Run a Parents in Sport Week poster competition \u2013 encourage young people to design posters, and use the winning poster to promote the week<br \/>\n5.
