As well as offering opportunities for apprentices over 18 years old within the Urdd to earn a wage and gain experience and qualifications in the sports and outdoor sectors, they are now able to offer Welsh-language training to other organisations through their apprenticeship scheme, funded by the Welsh Government.<\/p>\n
The Urdd\u2019s scheme which has now been expanded to external organisations and is available at little or no cost, means that staff members will undertake an apprenticeship in Sports Activity Leadership whilst continuing with their current duties. All training is funded through the Urdd and is suitable for those working with children or young people in Wales. They are already at 35 apprenticeships and the demand is growing.<\/p>\n
Lauren Richards, now in her second year as an Apprentice with the Urdd, says,<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving the opportunity to be part of the Urdd\u2019s apprenticeship scheme has enabled me to develop in many ways and to top it off, I can do it all through the medium of Welsh.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gary Lewis, Director of the Urdd\u2019s Sports Department and leading the scheme, added,<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing the success of our internal Apprenticeship Scheme over the last few years, we are delighted to be able to build on that success and extend our provision and offer the apprenticeships to other organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re proud to be able to offer experience and training through the medium of Welsh in the sports and outdoor activities sector. Our hope is that this, in turn, will lead to a wider provision and availability of Welsh-language activities for the young people of Wales.\u201d<\/p>\n
