The Welsh Sports Association is delighted that, through its trading arm Vibrant Nation, we will be supporting the implementation of the GLFW programme over the next twelve months.

As per the e-mail that was circulated to beneficiaries, please see our introduction and background to the GLFW. We have embraced the principles within the framework ourselves, and it has been a guiding light to our own transformation as an organisation. Working with governance is not new to the WSA – everything we do is about ensuring our members become more resilient businesses and good governance is the foundation to this.

The second edition of the Framework was recently release by Sport Wales. The Framework retains all of the principles of the original, but the fundamental change in the latest version is its ability to recognise proportionality, with the inclusion of three stages of governance:

• Foundations of Success

• Building on Success

• Sustaining Success

The new Sport Wales strategy defines the organisation’s direction in the coming years and how its funding principles will adapt to reflect that direction. This could provide potential new opportunities for investment, as too will the WSA’s approach to signposting beneficiaries to opportunities for support and funding streams outside of the more traditional sources.

However, unless you are an organisation that can demonstrate good governance practices, these potential funding opportunities will be lost. If you are an organisation looking to grow, develop or stabilise, now is the time to invest energy into ensuring your organisation can capitalise on the growing number of opportunities available to help your organisation achieve its goals.
