2Buy2 conduct “game-changing” energy audits for Cricket Wales clubs

Welsh Sports Association partner 2Buy2 has recently conducted energy audits for the club network of WSA member organisation Cricket Wales.

Energy audits are a vital step in securing funding and ensuring sustainable futures for clubs and organisations.

Cardiff-based procurement specialist 2Buy2 deliver crucial energy audits, which include a site visit to review and assess for energy efficiency and a report that identifies areas where improvements and savings can be made.

Cricket Wales recently commissioned 2Buy2 to undertake energy audits across its club network.

“The energy audit delivered by 2buy2 has been a game-changer for Cricket Wales and our network of clubs across the country,” commented Victoria Jones, Cricket Facilities Investment Manager.

“The entire process was smooth, efficient, and took the stress out of what could have been a very complex and time-consuming task. From start to finish, the 2Buy2 team provided a high level of professionalism, ensuring that everything was clearly explained and tailored to our needs.

“Most importantly, the audit has already helped clubs across Wales secure an incredible £477,908 in funding support – a vital boost for grassroots cricket at a critical time. This service has not only brought significant financial benefit but has also helped us move towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

“We’re extremely grateful for 2Buy2’s support and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to any organisation looking to make impactful, informed energy decision,” concluded Victoria.

Describing the process from 2Buy2’s point of view, David Thomas, the organisation’s Energy Category Manager, added:

“2buy2 ran a tender for Cricket Wales through our framework, which resulted in a company being chosen as the preferred supplier. That supplier then visited all venues and checked the infrastructure and bills of those premises to ensure they were running as efficiently as they could

“Where areas were found to be underperforming,” he went on, “options of improvement were suggested to the customer, which included costed analysis so that the customer could see how long it would take for the outlay to repaid.”

How WSA partners can help stretch energy funding as far as possible

WSA partners 2Buy2 and Floodlighting and Electrical can play huge roles in maximising your energy funding.

Welsh Government recently announced £10 million in grant funding to support organisations across Wales to develop Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES), helping ensure the benefits of energy generation are retained and felt in local communities.

The grant scheme, building on the work of Ynni Cymru, established by the Welsh Government in 2023, will provide financial support to community energy organisations, social enterprises, public sector bodies, and SMEs developing innovative local energy projects.

The scheme’s impact so far can be seen at Holywell Town Football Club in Flintshire where, thanks to funding during the last round, the club has transformed its energy infrastructure.

The grant allowed the club to add roof-mounted solar PV panels, battery storage, air source heat pumps, EV charging points, smart LED floodlights, and an intelligent energy management system.

This integrated approach means it expects an 80% reduction in annual energy costs – savings that are being reinvested into grassroots sport and community initiatives.

Director of Holywell Town Football Club 1947 Ltd, Tracey Jones, said:

“We have built a strong foundation and legacy that is supporting local people within the local and wider area of Holywell and are grateful for the fund’s support towards our long-term sustainability.

“While this phase concludes, the club’s journey continues. We look forward to building on this momentum, expanding our reach, and ensuring the club remains a lasting asset for the community.

“Our expected reduction in annual energy costs also allows us to further support grassroots sport and initiatives. We currently have 155 boys from ages 6 to 17 playing within the club, have a new Females team with us for the new season ahead, and have a strong relationship with Achieve More Training delivering engagement programs and qualifications at the ground of our football club – reaching out to deliver alternate provision through ‘Goodwood’ which is based within our football club.”

When acquiring grants like this, or the Sport Wales Energy Saving Grant for example, utilising the services of 2Buy2 and Floodlighting and Electrical will not only give sports clubs preferential rates, but also ensure maximum energy efficiency and therefore make full use of funding.
