Cymru Women’s Sport joins WSA as Full Member

The WSA is thrilled to welcome Cymru Women’s Sport to the membership base as a Full Member.

Incorporated as a charity earlier this year, the organisation is dedicated to ensuring women and girls across Wales have equitable opportunities in sport, battling the inequalities that continue to produce barriers across participation, leadership and investment.

It is the only organisation specifically representing women and girls in Wales, having set up its first three-year strategy to support the necessary developments in women’s sport that will help to create a more level-playing field.

Cymru Women’s Sport does this under three main pillars, Advocating, Connecting and Celebrating.

The charity advocates for gender equity in participation, policy, governance, strategy and investment; it connects with others to ensure there are opportunities to come together and make progress; and it celebrates the positive actions taken by others and the successes of women and girls in sport in Wales.

Cymru Women’s Sport operates under its values to positively disrupt, elevate all women with a focus on those historically underrepresented to encourage meaningful inclusion, and build deliberate partnerships to accelerate gender equity in sport.

Having already worked alongside many National Governing Bodies in Wales to showcase the achievements of their athletes, Cymru Women’s Sport is now joining the WSA membership base to solidify their role in the sector as the leading voice for women and girls in sport and physical activity in Wales.

Cymru Women’s Sport Chair, Leigh Robinson, stated:

“We’re delighted to join colleagues across the sport and physical activity sector as members of the WSA. After gaining charitable status and launching our campaign with 100 Founding Members, we’re ready to build momentum for the change women and girls in Wales need.

“Despite growing visibility for women’s sport, a significant participation gap remains at every age and stage of women’s lives. We need women’s voices at decision-making tables, greater investment in women’s sport, and action to remove barriers to safe, accessible opportunities to participate.

“Joining the WSA gives us a stronger collective voice, and we look forward to working with partners across the sector to drive lasting change for women and girls in Wales.”

WSA CEO, Andrew Howard, added:

“We’re delighted to have our colleagues from Cymru Women’s Sport join the WSA membership base.

“This is an exciting time for women’s and girls’ sport, with growing momentum and opportunity across the sector. However, there is still more to do to ensure that women and girls have equitable opportunities to participate, develop and thrive at every level.

“We look forward to collaborating more closely with Cymru Women’s Sport as they become part of our extensive network of member clubs and organisations, helping to support and champion sport and physical activity across Wales.”
