Hugh James support WRU for launch of ambitious project SCALE

Welsh Sports Association (WSA) partners Hugh James have been instrumental in the launch of ambitious project SCALE, supporting WSA member Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) with their industry expertise.

The Principality Stadium, known for its epic rugby clashes and legendary concerts, has elevated its reputation with the opening of its thrilling sky-line adventure, SCALE, daring visitors to scale, zip line, and even jump from the iconic home of Welsh rugby.

Behind the scenes, in the shadows of the iconic stadium at Two Central Square, expert legal advice from Hugh James’ construction lawyers was crucial for the smooth take-off for this ambitious project.

As long-standing legal advisors to the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), the firm’s construction specialists, led by Iwan Jenkins, steered the negotiations with Pro Steel Engineering, ensuring all legal aspects were in place for the city-centre tourist attraction to open earlier this year.

Pro Steel Engineering designed, manufactured, galvanised, and installed 120 tonnes of structural steelwork on the roof.

Just as visitors to the Principality Stadium are encouraged to take on the exhilarating SCALE adventure, the firm’s construction team eagerly took on the sky-line challenge, marking the completion of another key agreement for the WRU.

Partner Iwan Jenkins said:

“SCALE is a transformational construction and engineering project that strengthens the Principality Stadium’s track record for attracting thrill seekers and sports fans in their droves to our capital city. As a major Cardiff business and long-standing legal advisor to the Welsh Rugby Union, we were delighted to contribute to this exciting project.

“It was fantastic to work with a fellow Welsh business Pro Steel Engineering and collaboration was at the heart of the process and the contract selected and used.  At Hugh James, we never shy away from a challenge, and so we jumped at the chance to celebrate together from the dizzy heights of the stadium roof.”

Claire Jenkins, Managing Director of Scale, commented:

“Hugh James’ construction lawyers played a crucial role in the successful launch of our unrivalled city-centre sky-line adventure. Their expertise and attention to detail ensured that all legal requirements were met in our negotiations with our partners Pro Steel Engineering, allowing us to focus on creating an exciting new attraction at Principality Stadium and delivering an unforgettable experience for our visitors.”

Richard Selby, Director at Pro Steel Engineering, added:

“Before we embarked on the landmark stadium transformation, it was essential for the WRU to understand how to protect their greatest asset; Principality Stadium, the jewel in the crown of Welsh rugby.

“Collaborating with Hugh James has been pivotal in achieving the necessary level of openness and transparency for all parties involved to make SCALE a reality for the stadium, Pro Steel Engineering and the many more visitors set to flock to Cardiff to give it a go.”
