Mumbles Community Association join WSA as Full Members

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) welcomes its newest member organisation, Mumbles Community Association.

Mumbles Community Association (MCA) was set up as a registered charity in 2015, with the specific purpose of developing the facilities in Underhill Park in order to protect this fantastic asset for their local community and create an environment in which everyone feels welcome.

The initial stage, currently underway, involves replacing the existing run down facilities with six new changing rooms plus facilities for referees and a sports physio room.  Whilst these facilities are much needed by the clubs already using the park, they will also open Underhill up to additional sports users.  The charity is also creating a new community hub and café and new public toilets in response to these being identified as needed by the wider local community.

Once the first stage of the development is completed, MCA will take on management of the park and the new facilities under a 125 year lease, and will be working with existing and potential users to create more opportunities for the community. Looking beyond the initial construction project, MCA is currently working to secure the funding needed to enable a new all-weather pitch to be built, further protecting and expanding sports and recreational use of Underhill.

As Full Members, Mumbles Community Association will be able to take full advantage of the plethora of WSA resources available to them, supporting them on their path to fulfilling their strategic objectives.

Simon Tse, Chair of Mumbles Community Association, said:

“Whilst MCA is not just about sport, it is a large part of the life of Underhill Park, so joining the Welsh Sports Association and becoming a Member made complete sense to us.

“Being able to access the support and opportunities available through WSA will be very helpful for us, particularly as we move beyond the planning and building stage and start to manage Underhill Park and the fantastic new facilities for our community.”
