South Wales Rounders Association joins WSA as Full Member

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is thrilled to welcome South Wales Rounders Association (SWRA) to the membership base as a Full Member!

An exciting recent rise in the sport led to Julie Clayden founding the SWRA in March 2023. The organisation strives to govern, develop and maintain the sport of Rounders in the South Wales area.

Rounders has seen a significant increase in engagement and participation across South Wales in recent months, with the accessible and inclusive sport offering people of all ages the opportunity to maintain their physical and mental health.

Through MyRounders – a local start up rounders league business – there are now over 700 participants in six mixed-gender leagues that have been formed around Port Talbot since November, while there are plans to set divisions up in Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff.

This has alerted Julie to the urgency of forming an association to govern the sport and help develop rounders further!

As a Full Member of the WSA, SWRA will look to develop recognition and legal structure of the organisation, as well as take advantage of WSA member services such as training, our specialist helpline services, insurance and the renowned WSA DBS checking service.

SWRA Founder Julie commented:

“It has been an incredible and very busy few months as the participation of rounders has rocketed. Wales does not yet have an NGB; the SWRA, currently in its infancy, will act as a bridge to allow the committee to work towards recognition and apply for NGB status by 2026.

“SWRA intends to concentrate on developing youth rounders, engaging schools, colleges and universities to offer rounders as an alternative to mainstream sports such as football, rugby and netball. It is a very exciting time to be part of the development of Rounders in Wales.”

WSA Commercial Manager Thomas Sharp added:

“The WSA team are delighted to welcome South Wales Rounders Association to the ever-growing WSA membership base!

“We look forward to providing our specialist member services to support SWRA on their journey to recognition!”
