WSA Advocacy: Coronavirus Update – 17 September 2021

The First Minister has confirmed that Wales will remain in Alert Level 0, meaning that most current legal guidance will remain the same, however one main new restriction will be brought in.

This week there will be a vote in the Senedd to confirm the introduction of Covid passes in Wales from Monday next week (the 11th October). The Government are expected to win the vote and therefore passes will be introduced for events of the following scales:

  • Nightclubs and similar venues
  • 500+ attendees at non seated indoor events.
  • 4,000+ outdoor events where people are standing.
  • 10,000+ for all settings.

The published draft regulations specifically exclude mass participation sporting events outdoors (in the open air) – these are available here and we recommend you look over them in detail if you have events planned over the winter : https://senedd.wales/media/wrphb1az/sub-ld14562-e.pdf.

A Covid pass will be either proof of vaccination status, available via the web portal (https://covid-status.service.nhsx.nhs.uk/) or a recent negative covid test. Passes will not be required for those under 18 or working/volunteering at an event. Those from outside the UK will be able to provide negative LFD tests to gain entry.
