WSA celebrates Volunteers’ Week 2023

WSA celebrates Volunteers’ Week 2023

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2023, taking place from the 1st to the 7th of June, recognising the importance of volunteers across the sport and leisure sector.

Taking place between the same dates every year, the campaign represents a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and express our gratitude.

Volunteers’ Week 2023’s theme is to celebrate and inspire; the week will aim to highlight that our diversity is our strength, show that there’s more than one way to volunteer and encourage people to be the change that we want to see.

Hundreds of activities across the UK will take place during the week, showcasing and celebrating the pivotal work of volunteers in all sectors.

In sport and leisure, volunteers are the foundation upon which the sector thrives; the WSA would like to say thank you to the people who give their time in order for organisations to run events and provide the opportunity for others to participate in physical activity.

Throughout Volunteers’ Week 2023, the WSA will shout about volunteer experiences, services that can benefit volunteers, as well as engaging with the variety of activity taking place along the way!

We are thrilled, for example, to be able to offer our Volunteer Hub, which brings together volunteers from across Wales willing to offer their services to support WSA members in running events.

The role of volunteers is so important in the smooth-running and even existence of the competitions that our members put on for athletes and fans to enjoy; so, it’s vital that there’s a reliable hub of volunteers for them to call upon.

Launched in January, the WSA Volunteer Hub aligns with our mission of supporting our members and ensuring they remain robust and resilient.

Volunteers can also take advantage of the WSA DBS Checking Service, one of the most cost-effective and efficient on the market, as well as being Wales’ only bilingual service!

Tested and approved by the Ministry of Justice and The Home Office, while also being endorsed by both Welsh Government and the NSPCC, volunteers can feel supported by an up-to-date and high-quality service from the WSA.

We are excited to be celebrating Volunteers’ Week this year and recognising how important volunteers are for our sector; look out for the WSA Twitter page, where we’ll be remaining very active throughout the week!
