WSA join Team Wales for Commonwealth Day

The WSA was delighted to attend the Commonwealth Day celebrations at Techniquest, Cardiff this morning, as member organisation Commonwealth Games Wales marked 136 days until the Commonwealth Games!

It was a wonderful morning to celebrate Cymru, with Team Wales CEO Rebecca Edwards-Symmons kicking off proceedings by welcoming athletes, schools and partners to the Commonwealth Day event.

Colleagues were treated to performances and readings from Tredegarville Primary School and Mount Stuart Primary School, which were expertly delivered (a special shout out to the individual on the Glockenspiel), as well as a tour de force in interviewing technique when questioning Team Wales’ Chef De Mission Gethin Jones on stage.

Various Team Wales athletes were present, including Dan Pitt representing Welsh Boxing, Steffan Lloyd representing Beicio Cymru and Chloe Morgan from the 3×3 Wales Wheelchair Basketball team. All three discussed their ambitions for the upcoming games and what it takes to deliver sporting excellence.

The key note was delivered by Chef De Mission Gethin Jones and colleagues were able to enjoy the beautiful musical entertainment from Elen Wyn who kept her composure under the multitude of enthusiastic flags being waved on the stage behind her!

It was particular exciting to be officially introduced to the Team Wales Mascot, Gwen, as well, promoting the pride, culture and ambition of Team Wales as we head to Glasgow in the summer of 2026.
