The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) was thrilled to join member organisation Team Wales on Wednesday 23 July to celebrate the one-year countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Gathering at the Parkgate Hotel, we heard from an array of figures that would be part of the group representing Wales on the global stage in a year’s time.

Speaking at the event was the Commonwealth Games Wales Chair, Gareth Davies, and Commonwealth Games Wales CEO, Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, as well a insightful panel discussions with Welsh sporting royalty past and present.

Television broadcaster Gethin Jones, recently announced as the Chef de Mission for Team Wales at the 2026 Games, also delivered his first address.

The inspiring Business Club event brought together partners, businesses, and sports leaders to reflect on Wales’ proud Commonwealth Games legacy and to look ahead to an exciting new chapter. With powerful stories from past Games, insights from hopefuls for Glasgow 2026, and the passionate voice of the Athletes’ Commission, the event truly embodied the spirit of Team Wales.

Wales has proudly competed in every Games since 1930 — and now, we’re rallying support as we begin the final leg to Glasgow!

Speaking post event, Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, CEO Team Wales said:

‘’The One Year to Go event was absolutely superb – a room full of guests, all united by the same goal: supporting Team Wales as we build towards the Games next summer. I’m incredibly proud to be the Chief Executive of such a passionate and committed team of staff and volunteers. The energy and enthusiasm in the room truly reflected what Team Wales is all about. Now, every single day counts as we near the 23rd Commonwealth Games and get behind the athletes as they aim to compete on the world stage in Glasgow!’’
