Ynys Môn Island Games Association joins WSA as Full Member

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) welcomes the Ynys Môn Island Games Association to its membership base as a Full Member.

The Ynys Môn Island Games Association is a non-profit, volunteer-led organisation dedicated to helping elite athletes from Ynys Môn to compete at the biannual NatWest International Island Games. The organisation leads a team of around 150 athletes and officials, competing across an average of ten sports at each Games.

With the support of the Ynys Môn Charitable Trust, they also work in partnership with local clubs and organisations to help children develop their skills in sport to give them the opportunity to compete in the future.

The Ynys Môn Island Games Association was established to coordinate Ynys Môn’s participation at the International Island Games and, since the inaugural event in 1985, they have had athletes compete at each edition.

The organisation, which also hopes to host the Games in 2025, offers a unique opportunity in Wales as the only member island.

The aims and objectives of the Ynys Môn Island Games Association are to;

  • Foster and encourage friendship between Island communities through sporting activities
  • Provide, through the International Island Games, opportunities to participate in international sport
  • Promote sport on Ynys Môn in support of the Island Games Association
  • Co-ordinate administrative and financial arrangements to enable Ynys Môn’s participation every two years in the International Island Games
  • Promote and co-ordinate the hosting of an Island Games on Ynys Môn on an occasional basis

As we continue to develop the opportunities for people on Ynys Môn the support of the WSA and their extensive network of members and partners will prove invaluable. We are excited to see the impact over the next 12 months.”
