About Table Tennis Wales
Table Tennis Wales (TTW) is the National Governing Body for table tennis in Wales. Our ambition is to inspire Wales to enjoy table tennis a sport for all, for life.
We are committed to growing the sport across existing and new environments, while developing clear and accessible pathways for players, coaches, officials and volunteers. We work closely with clubs and leagues across Wales and deliver an elite performance programme based at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.
As an organisation, TTW is working towards achieving the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) Level 3 Standards for Safeguarding. We are seeking to strengthen and embed safeguarding practice across the sport through the appointment of a National Safeguarding Lead (NSL).
The NSL will be the designated safeguarding lead within TTW, with primary responsibility for managing and reporting concerns relating to children and adults at risk, implementing safeguarding procedures, and supporting clubs and leagues to meet required standards. The role will also have responsibility for safeguarding-related disciplinary matters and oversight of player, club and league discipline issues where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding Leadership & Governance
Work collaboratively across the organisation to promote and embed a positive, child-centred culture within table tennis in Wales.
Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful adult-centred environment across all TTW activities.
Act as the main point of contact within TTW for safeguarding children and adults at risk.
Lead the development, implementation and regular review of TTW safeguarding policies and procedures for children and young people, and develop relevant policies for adults at risk as required.
Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented across TTW, clubs and leagues.
Ensure TTW complies with current legislation, statutory guidance and best practice standards in safeguarding.
Lead the implementation and ongoing review of TTW’s safeguarding action plan and CPSU/ACT compliance requirements.
Ensure safeguarding standards are consistently met and maintained across the organisation.
Case Management & Reporting
Manage safeguarding concerns, allegations of poor practice, and reports of abuse relating to children and adults at risk.
Maintain a secure and confidential case management and record-keeping system, ensuring accurate documentation of concerns, actions taken and outcomes.
Liaise with statutory agencies including social care services and the police, making referrals where appropriate and ensuring access to relevant information.
Maintain up-to-date contact details and referral pathways for relevant statutory agencies.
Provide advice and guidance to the TTW Case Management Group on safeguarding matters.
Discipline & Conduct
Oversee and manage safeguarding-related disciplinary matters involving players, clubs, leagues, coaches, officials and volunteers.
Provide advice and guidance on player, club and league discipline issues where these intersect with safeguarding, codes of conduct, or welfare concerns.
Support and advise on the management of disciplinary processes relating to breaches of safeguarding policy, codes of conduct, or poor practice.
Work in collaboration with relevant TTW committees or panels to ensure disciplinary matters are handled fairly, consistently and in line with TTW regulations and governance procedures.
Club & League Support
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clubs and leagues across Wales.
Provide regular updates on safeguarding best practice, policy changes and regulatory requirements
Offer advice and practical support to clubs and leagues in managing safeguarding and welfare concerns.
Support, advise and oversee Club Safeguarding Officers (CSOs).
Assist in the safer recruitment, selection and training of Club Safeguarding Officers.
Training & Development
Identify organisational safeguarding training needs and deliver training where appropriate.
Promote continuous professional development in safeguarding for staff, volunteers, coaches and officials.
Manage the DBS checking process and administration for contracted staff, voluntary coaches and relevant personnel.
External Engagement & Representation
Coordinate the TTW Safeguarding Steering Group and provide regular reports to the CEO and Board.
Represent TTW at Sport Wales, NSPCC CPSU and Ann Craft Trust Lead Officer meetings, support forums and core training sessions.
Keep up to date with developments in safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality and relevant legal frameworks affecting children and adults at risk.
