Appointment of WSA Policy and Communications Manager

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Williams as its new Policy and Communications Manager.

Steven joins WSA at an important time for sport in Wales, bringing a strong track record across the UK Parliament, the Senedd and Sport Wales. His experience has equipped him with deep expertise in policy development, public affairs and stakeholder engagement, alongside a clear understanding of how to influence decision-making across government.

He has worked closely with MPs, Members of the Senedd and senior officials, ensuring that evidence-based perspectives are effectively represented and acted upon.

During his time at Sport Wales, Steven played a key role in developing the organisation’s first manifesto. These experiences have strengthened his ability to translate complex policy into clear, impactful messaging and to align stakeholders around shared priorities.

Steven is passionate about the role sport plays in improving health, education and community wellbeing. He is committed to ensuring the sector is inclusive, accessible and recognised for its wider social value. As a first-language Welsh speaker, he will also champion the Welsh language across communications and advocacy.

In his new role, Steven will lead WSA’s policy and communications work, working closely with members to amplify their collective voice, strengthen relationships with decision-makers, and position sport as a key contributor to national priorities.

WSA CEO Andrew Howard commented; “We are delighted to welcome Steven to the Welsh Sports Association next month. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for our members and for the wider sport and physical activity sector in Wales. Steven brings a wealth of experience across policy, public affairs and communications, alongside a genuine passion for sport’s role in improving lives and strengthening communities. I am confident he will play a key role in shaping a stronger, more connected and influential voice for our sector.

“I would also like to place on record my sincere thanks to Matthew Williams, who has served the Association with great expertise, professionalism and commitment over the past six years. Matthew has worked tirelessly on behalf of our members, and we wish him every success in his new role.”
