How is your sports club managing UV risk this summer?

How is your club managing UV risk this summer? The Sunguarding® System: a practical approach to protecting your participants, volunteers and coaches, can help.

As our summers become hotter and more people spend time outdoors participating in sport and physical activity, managing UV risk is becoming an increasingly important part of a club’s duty of care.

When it comes to skin cancer, the challenge isn’t simply awareness – it’s behaviour. Creating an environment where protecting your skin becomes a normal habit is what changes outcomes.

The Sunguarding® System from the Melanoma Fund helps sports clubs do exactly that. Built around three simple principles—Educate, Communicate and Enable—it provides a practical framework that any club can adopt.

STEP 1. Educate

Build knowledge and confidence.

Help coaches, volunteers and committee members understand UV risk and the simple actions they can take to reduce it.

How we can help:

Our free, online one-hour CPD-accredited Sunguarding® Course (CIMSPA and the Institute for Outdoor Learning)

STEP 2. Communicate

Keep sun and heat protection visible.

Simple campaigns, reminders and practical resources help keep sun and heat protection front of mind throughout the outdoor season.

How the Melanoma Fund can help:

The following campaigns provide free downable resources for clubs to raise awareness at the right time and place:

  • Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code
  • Sunguarding® Outdoors
  • Sunguarding® Sport
  • Slip! Slap! Swing! for golf

STEP 3. Enable

Make the right behaviour the easy behaviour

Practical tools remove barriers, normalise sun protection and help turn good intentions into everyday action.

How we can help:

  • UV Safety Stations with SPF50 sunscreen dispensers
  • Sunguard® UV-reactive wristbands

The outcome

You encourage people to be active outdoors. The Sunguarding® System helps them do it safely by making sun and heat protection part of everyday club culture.
