Howden is proud headline sponsor of the celebrated WSA Sports Industry Awards for 2025

Howden has a rich history of actively supporting equality and representation across all groups, as well as celebrating sporting endeavours, and is delighted to bring those two worlds together through their headline sponsorship of the 2025 Welsh Sports Association (WSA) Sports Industry Awards on Thursday 12 June.

With a visible and connected presence in Wales, Howden is proud to be immersing itself in an evening of awards that reflects its ‘People First’ approach to insurance and the local community.

As long-term partners to the WSA, Howden was keen to take a more immersive role in 2025. These prestigious awards and the wider WSA reflect Howden’s core values – celebrating the initiatives, sporting strategies and successes of WSA members that are bolstering a more inclusive, diverse, and resilient Welsh sports and leisure landscape. This way of working also aligns Howden with the WSA’s three-year strategy “to Collaborate, to Develop, and to Promote”.

Howden is sponsoring the ‘Best Initiative to Promote Women in Sport & Physical Activity’ award category. Having recently devoted a wide and varied platform to inform, educate, and celebrate International Women’s Day – including interviews and insight from female trailblazers across several industries – Howden is committed to ensuring this is a year-round perspective and way of working, rather than simply on one day each year.

The award was won in 2023 by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) project initiative, ‘Our Wales: For Her’. The project group’s focus remains on investing more resources in making women’s football more visible, and increasing opportunities for young girls and adult women to get involved – both as players and supporters.

One example of an ongoing initiative supported by the FAW is BE.FC  – not only built by teenage girls, but for teenage girls. Not so much a place to create and deliver the next Jess Fishlock, but much more a welcoming community in various locations across Wales for 12-16-year-old girls to turn up and have a go at football, while also being in a safe space to navigate the challenges of ‘teenage-dom’.

The FAW picked up the award for this category again in 2024, so Howden, along with many others, will be waiting to see whether they can score the hat-trick with a third win this June while keeping a close eye on the other impressive contenders in this category.

The complete list of award categories:

With so many strong contenders already being nominated and submitting applications, all those involved can look forward to an evening of real triumphs, engaging storytelling, and deserving winners from across Welsh sport.

Daniel Abbott, Corporate Director of Howden South Wales, commented:

“It is both a pleasure and a privilege to partner so closely with the WSA as headline sponsor for this year’s prestigious awards.  We acknowledge the dedication and achievements of all nominees, and wish them every success.”
