Thank you for making WSA member event From Omicron to Podium a success!
The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who made our member event, From Omicron to Podium, such an enjoyable and collaborative occasion.
After some opening remarks from Sam Lloyd, our CEO Andrew Howard addressed the room and stated that the WSA will continue to Collaborate, Develop and Promote on behalf of the sector. Andrew highlighted the importance of WSA support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and then reminisced about Team Wales’ summer success at the Commonwealth Games.
Sam, who had media responsibilities with Team Wales in Birmingham, then introduced our esteemed guest panel – 2022 Commonwealth Games Bronze medallists Medi Harris, Harrison Walsh and Charlotte Carey, Silver medallist Natalie Powell and Gold medallist Gemma Frizelle.
The fantastic Team Wales athletes, with Charlotte Carey taking the time to join virtually from her mid-tournament schedule out in France, gave the room an incredible, humorous and emotive insight into the journey to glory and what it takes to get to the top.
An account of the rigorous preparations going into major events, being in the moment during their respective routines and performances, and a moving testimony of hearing the Welsh national anthem while standing on the podium captivated our audience.
They were followed by the WSA team, who went into detail about the support available to the sport and leisure sector and some of the newest services available to the membership base.
Policy and Communications Manager Matthew Williams discussed the WSA’s approach to supporting the members through the cost-of-living crisis and the advocacy support that will be on offer. In addition, Commercial Manager Tom Sharp spoke about our the Procurement Portal for Sport & Leisure and the launch of the latest Membership Plus offer, Content & Comms Plus, which will provide members with direct social media and content support.
The event closed with the consumption of teas, coffees and Wels cakes after a summarising address from WSA Chair Lynn Pamment, who talked about the launch of the Welsh Sports Foundation and informed delegates that 2023 would see further progress for the Charity, which delivers on many of the Welsh Government’s well-being goals for future generations.
The event was a great opportunity for members to get together and for the WSA to highlight key areas of support.
The WSA would like to give a huge thanks to members, partners and all the attendees who joined us at the National Centre. We hope everyone enjoyed their afternoon and found value in what was discussed throughout – please don’t hesitate in contacting the WSA team if you want to follow up any of the support services that were mentioned!
We look forward to our next member event, and to continue supporting the breadth of our membership base! If you are a member and would like to access the recording of the event – please visit our sector webinar and recordings page
