The Welsh National men’s senior lacrosse team playing in the European Championships at Budapest have excelled themselves in reaching the semi finals in what has been a thrilling and hard fought competition. The players have almost imitated the way in which our football team played in the European cup. Whether in attack, midfield, defense or in goal the players have displayed excellent teamwork, courage and displayed tremendous skill and ability.

Following the opening ceremony on Thursday 28th July, the team achieved their first win over Austria 16 – 3, next were Norway who was defeated by just one goal at 6-5 to Wales.

Almost mimicking Wales football, Wales were beaten by Ireland 5 -3 in a hard fought and very tight game . Next up were Scotland, another battle saw Wales on top at 12-8, this game was followed by the Netherlands who lost to Wales 12-5.

This is the best result that the Wales National Lacrosse team have achieved for some years many of the team have stayed together and played together since they were junior members of Welsh lacrosse. Led by team manager Dan Funnell himself a veteran of many international and European championships the team have played as a team with everyone making a valuable contribution to this championship event.
