WSA DBS service continues to reach record numbers
The WSA DBS checking service has once again broken its own record, after an all-time high number of checks carried out between March 2025 and April 2026.
Last financial year saw a total of 24,150 checks carried out via the WSA’s service, representing a 14.4% increase on 2024 – 2025 when a then-record 21,114 checks were undertaken.
Within this year’s total, the WSA carried out nearly 500 basic checks as well as 35 Access NI checks, demonstrating the growing reach and impact of this particular service.
This financial year also saw the DBS service’s record month, too; back in September, the WSA carried out just under 4000 checks.
It’s fantastic to see an ever-increasing number of organisations utilise the WSA DBS checking service, which is delivered through the Welsh Sports Association’s trading arm, Vibrant Nation.
The success and growth of the service exemplify and reinforce the WSA’s commitment to safeguarding and ensuring that our sector is a safe space for all to enjoy.
WSA Business Manager and DBS Lead, Steffan Howells, commented:
“To have completed over 24,000 DBS checks and once again broken our record is another fantastic milestone for the service and the organisation.
“It’s a testament to our commitment to safeguarding within the sport and leisure sector and across our wider membership.
“Ensuring safe environments for people to participate and thrive has always been our top priority, and this achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the whole team.”
Meanwhile, Sian Jones, WSA Safeguarding Manager, added:
“DBS checks represent an important part of embedding safer cultures throughout organisations and the role a DBS check plays in safer recruitment cannot be understated.
“It is testament to the Vibrant Nation service, and its contribution to safeguarding, to have reached yet another amazing milestone.”
