Core purpose of role:

To support the development of Welsh junior tennis players and strengthen Cardiff Metropolitan University’s performance tennis programme by combining high-level playing representation with impactful coaching within the Welsh National 14+ National Training Programme.

The Tennis Player/Coach will support high quality coaching across the Tennis Wales 14+ National Pathway hosted at Cardiff Metropolitan University. They will also operate within a high performance environment, representing Cardiff Metropolitan University in BUCS and National League competitions. Based at the Cyncoed Campus, the role contributes to the integrated performance model between Cardiff Met and Tennis Wales, supporting junior player development, enhancing university tennis performance and advancing the shared vision of producing nationally and internationally competitive players.

Key responsibilities and contributions Coaching Responsibilities

• Under the leadership of the National Performance and University Head Coach, support coaching sessions to junior players on the Tennis Wales and Cardiff Met 14+ National Performance Pathway.

• Under the leadership of the National Performance and University Head Coach, support coaching sessions to university student players on the Tennis Wales and Cardiff Met BUCS performance programme.

• Support the development of a high-performance coaching environment that promotes dedication, work ethic and sporting values among all participants.

Playing Responsibilities

• Maintain a playing standard to represent Cardiff Met University in BUCS and other relevant competitions

General Duties

• Comply with safeguarding, health and safety and Coach Accreditation.

• Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the role, as requested by Cardiff Met Head of Tennis or Tennis Wales Head of Performance.

• Maintain a flexible approach to coaching/playing, with an understanding that workload may increase or decrease during different times of the season

• Support the University Tennis Co-ordinator in driving student engagement and championing workforce development opportunities
