WSA support Mastering Diversity Conference Wales 2024
On Monday 16 September, Welsh Sports Association (WSA) CEO Andrew Howard attended the Mastering Diversity Conference Wales 2024, held at the Principality Stadium.
Hosted by Bernie Davies, delegates first heard from former Wales rugby international Glenn Webbe and reality star Andrew Jenkins. Sport Wales Chair Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson then discussed the challenges she faced as a child with a disability, but spoke passionately about the support of her family and her determination to succeed in the sports arena from a young age.
Finally, former First Minister Vaughan Gething discussed the difficulties he faced in his childhood, growing up as a boy of mixed race in south Wales, but referenced the importance of sporting role models such as Glenn Webbe.
Following the keynote sessions, there were a number of breakout rooms.
Team Wales hosted a sporting session with a range of discussions including Women in Sport, Para-athletes from the Commonwealth Youth Games, and the importance of the Wales Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.
The WSA would like to thank Mastering Diversity for such a valuable and insightful event. CEO Andrew Howard commented:
“Attending the Mastering Diversity Conference was an enlightening experience.
“It reinforced the importance of creating an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued. As a member organisation, we are committed to implementing what I’ve learned to foster a culture where everyone can thrive.”
