The Welsh Sports Association was thrilled to support member organisation Cymru Football Foundation in its showcase event of Bangor City Football Club’s new 4G, non-infill pitch, the first in the UK.

Colleagues from the WSA ‘Facilities Community’ as well as other key members from across north Wales were invited to view this groundbreaking and innovative work. Also in attendance were our partners from Floodlighting and Electrical, as stakeholders from across the sector gathered for this captivating showcase.

The event allowed attendees to learn about the installation process, as well as what this next generation of non-infill systems can provide for communities across Wales.

The project was supported by Sports Labs, who spoke about how they delivered high-level design input and supported the tender process to help guide the project from concept through to contractor appointment.

TigerTurf, who also addressed the showcase event, were then responsible for the technology courtesy of a collaboration with Pure PT, while Sportex carried out the eventual installation.

Powered by TenCate Centre for Turf Innovation, Pure PT is engineered to replicate the feel, response and performance of natural grass; and after hearing about the processes, attendees were fortunate enough to put the surface through its paces for the first time.

“The WSA were delighted to collaborate with the Cymru Football Foundation, Sports Labs, Tiger Turf & Bangor City Stadium to showcase the first full-sized 4G playing surface in the UK,” commented the WSA’s Commercial Manager Tom Sharp.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to engage with our members in north Wales, and specifically colleagues from our Facilities Community to experience first-hand this innovative technology.”

Aled Lewis, Cymru Football Foundation Director, added:

“We’re so pleased to have installed the first community-based 4G in the UK at Bangor City Stadium. At the Cymru Football Foundation we’re proud to push the boundaries and want to be seen as innovators in this space.

“The opportunity to work with the WSA to promote this project and welcome so many industry leaders and experts was a brilliant occasion, and we look forward to hosting similar events in the future.”
