This year will mark the third edition of the event, which brings together colleagues and stakeholders from across the sector and beyond to celebrate the best of the sport and leisure industry in Wales.

Howden Announced as new Headline Sponsor

We are delighted to welcome our new Headline Sponsor for this year’s Awards – WSA partner Howden. In addition to their headline sponsorship, Howden will also be sponsoring an individual award on the night.

“Following the resounding success and prestige of the 2024 WSA Sports Industry Awards, Howden is proud to take on the role of Headline Sponsor for the 2025 edition of this landmark event,” commented Howden Corporate Director, Dan Abbott.

“The Awards showcase the very best of the Welsh sporting industry, recognising excellence, innovation, and commitment across the sector – values that align closely with Howden’s own dedication to empowering clients and communities through sport.

“As long-term partners of the WSA in Wales, we are delighted to strengthen our support for Welsh sport and its dynamic & evolving landscape. This sponsorship reflects our broader investment in sport, which includes partnerships with The British & Irish Lions, Victoria Racing Club, Bahrain Turf Club, and, most recently, the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team.

“We look forward to celebrating the achievements of those driving positive change in the sports industry and continuing to champion the power of sport to inspire and unite.”

Over the past two years, the WSA Sports Industry Awards have recognised and promoted the initiatives and successes of WSA members, while also communicating best-practice models and strategies that are helping the Welsh sport and leisure sector to develop.

Organisations such as Disability Sport Wales, Weightlifting Wales, The Outdoor Partnership and Aura Leisure were recipients of prestigious WSA Sports Industry Awards last year, as well as the Welsh Rugby Union, Dragons RFC, the Football Association of Wales, and an individual FAW-affiliated club, Bellevue FC.

We encourage WSA members to enter and remind them that their member clubs can also participate by submitting entries through their parent organisation. Once again, key stakeholders from across the sector, including Welsh Government and Sport Wales, will join us for a special evening – celebrating those who have been successfully shortlisted and highlighting their achievements.

Three projects or initiatives will once more be nominated and communicated prior to the event in June, with the eventual winner revealed on the night.

Howden’s Headline Sponsorship isn’t the only thing new this year. The WSA is excited to reveal a ninth award for 2025, with the Business Growth Award being introduced alongside the eight categories that have previously existed. A full list of the award categories at the 2025 WSA Sports Industry Awards is as follows:

  • Best Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative
  • Best Initiative to Promote Women in Sport & Physical Activity
  • Best Innovation Award
  • Best Commitment to the Welsh Language
  • Best Sustainability Initiative
  • Best Social Impact Initiative
  • Best Collaboration Initiative
  • Most Influential Campaign

The WSA looks forward to seeing the work that the membership has delivered in 2024, and wish all entries the best of luck throughout the process. The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 24th March 2025.
