Wales and WSA member Welsh Snooker shine bright on the baize at the U17 World Snooker Championships
Wales and Welsh Sports Association (WSA) member Welsh Billiards & Snooker Association were represented brilliantly at the U17 World Snooker Championships this month, with an all-Welsh final to cap off the tournament.
The competition took place in Saudi Arabia from the 8th to the 11th of July, with players from all over the world taking to the baize.
Liam Davies and Riley Powell were the only two Welsh players to enter the competition, both making it to the final.
Davies overcame opposition from Oman, Saudi Arabia, India, Iraq and Hong Kong to reach the final two, while Powell mad it to the showpiece event following wins over opponents from Iraq, India, UAE, Germany, China and Hong Kong.
After both beating Hong Kong representatives in the semi-finals, the two Welshman played out a brilliant final in Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, in which Davies ran out a 4-0 winner.
A huge congratulations must go to Powell, who, at just 14 years of age, did himself proud among such fantastic quality and competition.
And the WSA would of course also like to congratulate the U17 World Snooker Champion, 17-year-old Liam Davies, who also boasted a tournament-high break of 122!
The Welsh pair can expect to come back home to a fair few pats on the back following their stunning performances in the middle east, not least from Welsh icon and snooker great Mark Williams, who watched from home!
The WSA would once again like to congratulate Liam Davies and Riley Powell, and are excited to see the next steps in their respective careers!
