Inclusive Adventure Festival breaks barriers!

Lexie test drives, with a bit of help from her father, a specially adapted bike for wheelchair users at the North Wales Special Educational Needs Outdoor Activity Festival held at Ysgol y Gogarth last week.

More than 300 children and young people and staff from 7 SEN Schools across North Wales attended the festival.

Activities during the week included cycling, climbing and rowing.

Co-ordinator Bethan Davies of Outdoor Partnerships said:

“The aim of the festival was to enable disabled children and young people to take part in activities they normally wouldn’t get the opportunity to do due to various barriers. Each activity was modified to suit each individual to ensure as many could take part as possible.”

The festival is part of the Outdoor Partnership’s Inclusive Adventure programme and was made possible thanks to Big Lottery Funding with support from Anglesey, Conwy & Gwynedd Councils, Welsh Cycling and Disability Sport Wales Regional Officers. Thanks must also go to Ysgol y Gogarth for hosting the festival, enabling us to provide a range of activities on one site. Conwy Rural Leisure team were also an integral part of the smooth running of the festival through taking care of the biking activity along with adapted bikes kindly borrowed from Conwy Free Wheelers Club who are based at Eirias Park.
