How the WSA DBS service can support organisations across the UK
The Welsh Sports Association began providing DBS checks in 2016, and has since seen the service – run through trading arm Vibrant Nation – gather popularity courtesy of the benefits it brings, with over 300 organisations now utilising the WSA for this part of their safeguarding duties.
The WSA DBS service is utilised by so many bodies throughout the country for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it is tested and approved by the Ministry of Justice and The Home Office, while also being endorsed by both Welsh Government and the NSPCC – so rest assured that the service is up-to-date and of the highest quality!
It’s also Wales’ only bilingual service, allowing us to ensure that everyone in the country can enjoy sport and physical activity in a safe and assured environment.
Further afield, it’s a service that is open to all! In order to maximise our support in making wider society a safe space for everyone, it is not necessary to be an organisation based in Wales, or even a sporting enterprise, to take advantage of the service.
It is completely digital, getting rid of the burden of paper copies and prolonged waiting times! Moving the system online enables a quicker and simpler process, maximising efficiency and organisational capacity throughout and therefore easing the burden of this crucial part of safeguarding responsibilities for our clients.
The WSA DBS checking service is also one of the cheapest on the market. Any organisation can access DBS checks via the WSA for an administrative fee of £5.50, while our members receive discounted rates – our Memorandum of Understanding with Community Leisure UK also sees all CLUK members receive preferential rates to our service!
Lastly, but certainly not least, the whole service is not run for profit, meaning that all the money made from the administrative fees we charge is funnelled back into sport and leisure to make the sector as enjoyable, safe and prosperous for all!
