DSA Industry Dissertation and Engagement Event 2025

Cardiff University’s Data Science Academy (DSA) is hosting an in-person session for companies and external organisations to learn more about suggesting a dissertation topic for our students to work on.
After completing the taught part of their study, DSA students work on a twelve-week dissertation over the summer to complete their degree. To help expose our students to the experience of working with industry many of these dissertation-subjects are sourced from external partners in industry and research institutes.
There are many benefits to proposing a student dissertation topic. For example, if you have data you want to use to answer a research problem, our data analytics students can use their skills to help you. We also have students studying AI, cyber security, data and journalism, and natural language processing, so there are several disciplines you could engage in. This can also help you expand your network, allow you to work as collaborative supervisor on a dissertation and ‘talent spot’ students to work with following their graduation.

Mae Academi Gwyddor Data Prifysgol Caerdydd (DSA) yn cynnal sesiwn bersonol i gwmnïau a sefydliadau allanol ddysgu mwy am awgrymu pwnc traethawd hir i’n myfyrwyr weithio arno.
Ar ôl cwblhau’r rhan a addysgir o’u hastudiaethau, mae myfyrwyr y DSA yn gweithio ar draethawd hir deuddeg wythnos dros yr haf i gwblhau eu gradd. Er mwyn helpu ein myfyrwyr i ddeall y profiad o weithio gyda diwydiant, mae llawer o’r pynciau traethawd hir hyn yn dod o bartneriaid allanol mewn sefydliadau diwydiant ac ymchwil.

Er enghraifft, os oes gennych ddata yr hoffech ei ddefnyddio i ateb problem ymchwil, gall ein myfyrwyr dadansoddi data ddefnyddio eu sgiliau i’ch helpu. Mae gennym hefyd fyfyrwyr sy’n astudio AI, seiberddiogelwch, data a newyddiaduraeth, a prosesu iaith naturiol, felly mae sawl disgyblaeth y gallech gymryd mantais ohonnynt. Gall hyn hefyd eich helpu i ehangu eich rhwydwaith, eich galluogi i weithio fel goruchwyliwr cydweithredol ar draethawd hir a ‘darganfod myfyrwyr‘ i weithio gyda chi ar ôl graddio.

3:00pm – 4:30pm UTC: DSA Projects Session Welcome & Presentations: Join us to learn about how dissertations with organisations operate, see examples to inspire what you could propose to us for our students to work on and hear about the success stories of the DSA.
4:30pm – 5:00pm UTC: DSA Projects & Engagement Networking with Refreshments: Following a presentation about projects and engagement, we welcome you to network with staff over refreshments
