Bangor University WSA Membership Testimonial

Bangor University have been Associate Members with the Welsh Sports Association since April 2021 and Sam Wallwork, Head of Sport at the organisation, has revealed how beneficial WSA membership has been for them:

Becoming a member gave us the gateway to the WSA’s business and governance services for the sector; signing up improved organisational resilience and presented us with the opportunity to be in meetings with like-minded bodies, stakeholders, and public officials over recent months.

Having access to these COVID-19 Pandemic business continuity webinars, alongside a wide range of National Governing Bodies and sports facilities-providers, has been invaluable to us as an organisation. We’ve consistently had in-advance intelligence that has allowed us to keep up with latest updates, and had more time to plan and operate in a safe and legal manner – which, as an organisation that spans many sectors, has been brilliant.

The policy and services provided by WSA to members has ensured we receive key information before it’s made public, and this has proved invaluable to our planning and delivery throughout the Pandemic.

WSA provides a number of business support services which previously we couldn’t access. Although, as a large organisation, we do not typically avail (or require) many of the “business services”, the access to the network remains the key factor in our membership.

Being a WSA member opens the door to the whole sporting sector, giving you networking opportunities to increase your own partnerships.

Sam went on to praise the personal experience Bangor University has had with the WSA, and recommended membership to the Welsh sport and leisure sector:

We have found WSA staff to be very informative and quick to reply to queries and respond to requests; they’ve also created a sense that the sector is fully working in collaboration and lobbying Welsh Government to ensure that sport and leisure, as an industry, is heard.

The WSA has created that much-needed link between the government and the sector, and I would most definitely highly recommend membership if you want the latest legal, training and compliance updates. It’s been a very valuable asset for us.
