Calon Tysul arrives to the WSA membership base as a Full Member
The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is thrilled to welcome Calon Tysul to the membership base as a Full Member!
Upon the opening of the centre in December 2017, National Eisteddfod winning poet, Tudur Dylan Jones, described the charity initiative as “much more than just a swimming pool and leisure centre” in his words entitled ‘Calon Lân, Calon Iach, Calon Tysul’, meaning ‘A Pure Heart, A Healthy Heart, The Heart of Llandysul’ in English.
He wrote:
Mae Calon Tysul yn gymaint mwy na phwll nofio a chanolfan hamdden. Rydyn ni yma i gefnogi, ysbrydoli ac i annog trigolion ein hardal o gwmpas Llandysul i gymryd rhan mewn ystod eang o weithgareddau cymdeithasol. Boed yn nofio yn ein pwll, codi pwysau yn ein hystafell ffitrwydd neu gymryd rhan mewn gweithdy crefft yn ein hystafell amlbwrpas, mae rhywbeth at ddant pawb!
Ffurfiwyd Calon Tysul yn 2017 ar ôl i Gyngor Sir Ceredigion trosglwyddo ‘Canolfan Hamdden Llandysul’ i berchnogaeth yr Ymddiriedolwyr Canolfan Dŵr Llandysul.
Penderfynwyd roedd angen enw newydd ar gyfer dechrau newydd, felly dewiswyd yr enw Calon Tysul i adlewyrchu pwysigrwydd y ganolfan i bawb yn ein pentref.
Calon Tysul is much more than just a swimming pool and leisure centre. We are here to support, inspire and encourage the residents of Llandysul and surrounding areas to take part in a wide range of social activities. Whether it’s swimming in our pool, lifting weights in our fitness room or taking part in a craft workshop in our multi-purpose room, there’s something for everyone!
Calon Tysul was formed in 2017 after Ceredigion County Council transferred ownership of ‘Llandysul Leisure Centre’ to the Trustees of Llandysul Aqua Centre.
It was decided that a new name was needed for a new start, Calon Tysul was the name chosen to reflect the importance of the centre to everyone in our village. Calon is the Welsh word for ‘heart’, so the name literally means ‘the Heart of Llandysul’.
As a Full Member of the WSA, Calon Tysul will look to take advantage of the Procurement Portal for Sport & Leisure to support with the heating of their swimming pool as well as explore its offering of EV charging for the centre’s car park.
Chair of Trustees at Calon Tysul, Gareth Bryant, commented:
“The trustees at Calon Tysul are delighted that our membership to the Welsh Sports Association has been accepted.
“As a leisure facility in the current climate it is always a difficult job to balance the book and keep the doors open. We are always looking at ways to reduce costs and increase participation and we are sure that by becoming members of the WSA, we will achieve both of these goals. We look forward to working closely with the organisation to help secure the future of Calon Tysul for many more years to come.”
WSA CEO Andrew Howard added:
“The WSA is fully committed to facilitating the prosperity and resilience of sport and leisure here in Wales and beyond.
“We have worked hard to extend our offering to include services that can make a significant difference to organisations and facilities across the sector, such as our Procurement Portal for Sport & Leisure, and are thrilled to provide them to support members like Calon Tysul.
“The WSA is also committed to contributing to the use and development of the Welsh language, and the team looks forward to working alongside another fully bilingual member.”
