Wales vs Austria – 2022 FIFA World Cup Play-Off Semi-Final
While the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be different from any other, every country will strive to reach the finals in Qatar with the the dream of reaching the pinnacle of footballing glory.
The World Cup is the planet’s biggest sporting event, with an estimated worldwide viewership of 3.572 billion people tuning in to the 2018 finals in Russia – more than half of the word’s population at the time. France went on to lift the Jules Rimmet trophy four years ago, exactly 20 years after their first global triumph, and although there are a select few favourites to win the sport’s most sought after prize this December, Wales still have hope of battling it out with the best.
Rob Page’s side finished second to Belgium in their preliminary qualifying group, advancing to the knockout play-off round. In March, they’ll face a tough semi-final home tie against Austria in the hope of teeing up a final against Scotland or Ukraine, from which qualification to Qatar 2022 would be within touching distance.
