Funding advice and grant opportunities for the sector

With the sporting community still very much feeling the financial effects of the Covid pandemic, it is important that sports organisations are aware of the continued public and private sources of support still being offered to the the sector.

The WSA have a dedicated Funding Advice & Grants – Resources & Support page to help your organisation identify and access potential opportunities for financial support. This includes business support and advice directly from the Welsh Government, and details of Sport Wales managed programmes – namely the Be Active Wales fund which still aims to protect and progress community sport clubs and organisations in Wales through the Covid-19 pandemic and into the future.

Sport Wales have also recently announced the Crowdfunder – A Place for Sport scheme set-up for any not-for-profit clubs, voluntary or community-based organisations that deliver or enable sport and/or physical activity in Wales. The scheme is designed to help those organisations looking to raise money for ‘off-field’ improvements. For example:

  • Changing rooms
  • Clubhouse renovations
  • Improved kitchen facilities to gain more income
  • Bike racks and storage
  • Lifts and ramps for better disability access
  • Solar panels
  • Generators
  • Boilers
  • New fencing

As part of the scheme, Crowdfunder will provide support and advice for your fundraising project. If your Crowdfunder page has reached certain criteria, Sport Wales has pledged to match fund between 30% and 50% of the total raised, up to a maximum of £15,000 match-funding. This pilot scheme will run until April 2022.

A note also that application deadline for the second round of funding under the Allianz Sports Fund is on the 8th October.   Support may be available in the form of grants between £500-£3,000 to help sports clubs meet their obligations, continue to provide opportunities within their local community and ease the financial impact as a result of Covid-19. Please get in touch with our partners Watkin Davies if you require support from a broker partner for this fund.
