We’re Hiring: Policy & Communications Manager
Help Shape the Future of Sport and Physical Activity in Wales – The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Policy and Communications Manager to join our team. This pivotal role will lead strategic advocacy, strengthen engagement across the sector, and champion the vital role that sport and physical activity play in creating a healthier, more vibrant Wales.
As the independent membership body for the sport and leisure industry in Wales, the WSA provides leadership, advocacy and essential governance and business services to help our members thrive. Our mission is to empower organisations to be stronger and more successful—ultimately contributing to “A Vibrant, Active Nation.”
About the Role
This role is ideal for a skilled communicator and strategic thinker with an excellent understanding of the Welsh policy landscape. You will be responsible for shaping the organisation’s external voice, building trusted relationships, and representing the sector at the highest levels.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing and implementing the WSA’s communications and advocacy strategy
- Leading public affairs activity and influencing decision-makers across Senedd Cymru, Welsh Government and beyond
- Building strong, collaborative relationships with members, policymakers, media, and sector partners
- Managing stakeholder mapping, public relations, and external communications
- Creating impactful campaigns to highlight sector priorities
- Producing key organisational documents, including consultation responses and the Annual Report
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a confident and proactive professional with:
- Significant experience in policy development and influencing
- A proven track record in communications strategy and media management
- A strong understanding of Welsh political and policy processes
- Excellent written, verbal and diplomatic skills
- The ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling messages
- Experience advising senior leaders or boards
- Welsh language skills and experience working within the sport, public or voluntary sectors are desirable but not essential.
