Mental Health Football in Wales become a Full Member of the WSA

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is happy to announce that Mental Health Football in Wales (MHFW) has joined the membership base as a Full Member.

Affiliated to fellow WSA member, the Football Association of Wales, MHFW provides an opportunity for adults to play football in a fun, inclusive, informal environment without judgement, encouraging and enabling people to develop friendships, support networks and positive relationships.

The organisation’s journey started during lockdown in 2020, following the suicide of a young man whose death could have been avoided had he been less isolated.

Originally a social media support group, MHFW quickly developed and adapted to find innovative ways to connect and support people due to its rapidly growing numbers. Within months, the organisation registered with the Charities Commission.

MHFW is a charity that’s fully owned and delivered by members with lived experience of mental health, with every one having a vote on its future development, direction, strategy and delivery.

At the core of its purpose, MHFW ensures that every participant can enjoy fun activities and events, leaving with smiles on their faces.

Commenting on MHFW joining the WSA, Founder and Charity Manager Keri Harris stated:

“We are really happy to become a Full Member of the Welsh Sports Association, and are looking forward to accessing the fantastic support, resources and opportunities now available through the WSA.

“We would also like to thank the FAW for the support it’s giving Affiliate Partners to help them join this brilliant service.”
