Resumption of sport after Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) would once again like to extend their thoughts to all that have grieved since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th.

The sport and leisure sector can resume its sporting activities across the United Kingdom this Tuesday, following Her Majesty’s state funeral on Monday.

Monday saw the nation and the sporting sector pause for an historic day and to pay their final respects as the Queen was laid to rest in St. George’s Chapel following a service at Westminster Abbey with an estimated global audience of billions.

While no sport took place on Monday – the day of the Queen’s state funeral and a day that marked the end of the period of National Mourning – Tuesday will see the resumption of sporting activities across the UK.

Therefore, organisations and clubs should be aware that there are currently no regulations or guidance on their activity.

Please don’t hesitate in contacting the WSA team should you have any queries about the current state of play or questions about how we can support you or your organisation!
