Damian Phillips

Damian joined legal firm Darwin Gray as a partner in 2009 and is known as one of the leading employment lawyers in South Wales.  He has led Darwin Gray’s Sports Law department for the last four years and has considerable experience acting for a number of professional sports people on employment law issues, with a particular emphasis on rugby players and coaches.

With over 24 years’ experience within the legal sector, he is able to advise on employment law issues, including business reorganisation, corporate acquisitions, disciplinary procedures and ligation in the Employment Tribunal.

He assists WSA on good governance, HR, employment queries and general legal support as required. Damian strives to provide clear, objective advice and seek commercial and practical solutions wherever possible.

He is a regular legal commentator on BBC Radio and contributor to employment law news. He was the South Wales Representative of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA) for a number of years and sat on its National Management Committee.

In addition to his role with WSA, he is also a Non-Executive Board member of Welsh Rugby Players’ Association and a Parent Governor at Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch.

His passion for sports extends to his personal life too, where he enjoys playing sports with his children, coaching the under-14s at Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd and keeping fit by running.
