Poppy Riley

I am currently studying for a Sports Management degree at Loughborough University and am here at the WSA for a year-long honorary work placement as part of that degree. I am interested in a career developing policy to help reduce inequality within sport with a focus on increasing the visibility and participation of underrepresented groups.

This year I will also be acting as a coach for Whitchurch High School and Whitchurch Hockey Club focusing on increasing participation and playing standards in youth hockey.

This summer, I was a volunteer at the Touch Rugby World Cup 2024, which was estimated to be the third largest sporting competition held in England since 2010 only exceeded by the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience as I was able to meet and work with people from all over the world.

I enjoy playing and watching sport. While in Cardiff for the year I will be playing hockey for Whitchurch Hockey Club, as well as renewing my season ticket for Cardiff City FC having previously been a holder for over 10 years before leaving for university.
