Welsh Sports Associations comment on First Ministers announcement of Covid regulations.

Commenting on todays announcement of a return to Alert Level 2 restrictions in Wales from Boxing Day, Lynn Pamment, Chair of the Welsh Sports Association said:

“We welcome the protection for team sports and children’s activities in today’s announcement by the First Minister. This is really good news and will mean that people are able to keep active into the New Year, and that children will be able to continue to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of sport and physical activity.

“However, we urge Welsh Government to revisit the decision to cap the number of people who can gather for other sporting activity as soon as possible. Doing so would allow outdoor sports activities like parkrun to enjoy the same protection as team sports.

”The WSA is looking for reassurance that financial support measures put in place will help those sport and leisure businesses who are affected by cancellations of events and other loss of trade over the coming weeks.”
