WSA celebrates Pride Month 2023

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) was thrilled to support and celebrate Pride Month 2023 by joining members Pride Sports Cymru in Cardiff’s Pride Parade over the weekend!

It was a truly special occasion during which we were able to recognise the importance of inclusivity, as well as celebrate the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, not just in sport but throughout society.

We were delighted to welcome Pride Sports Cymru into our membership base earlier this year and are excited to work with them further to achieve our shared objectives.

The WSA fully supports efforts to make sport and leisure in Wales fully inclusive, and with the LGBTQ+ community contributing so much to our sector, Pride Month is a perfect time to recognise this as well as celebrate the community’s achievements and success.

“Welsh sport has enjoyed a huge contribution from the LGBTQ+ community, and it’s important to recognise this alongside celebrating the community in wider society,” commented WSA CEO Andrew Howard.

“The WSA is fully committed to contributing to an inclusive sport and leisure sector here in Wales and are looking forward to collaborating with members such as Pride Sports Cymru in order to help achieve this.

“We look forward to celebrating Pride Month with everyone across Cymru over the month of June!”

Every year, in the month of June, Pride Month takes place as a dedicated celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and represents an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise political awareness of current issues facing it.

A lot of progress has been made for LGBTQ+ rights regarding issues such as marriage equality, but there is much more to be done so that the LGBTQ+ community are fully supported.

Everyone has a place in society and deserves to feel comfortable enough in their own identity to live their lives freely. Like wider society, sport and leisure is a space where everyone deserves the opportunity to participate, engage, and enjoy themselves freely.

We are thoroughly looking forward to seeing all the celebrations across this month! Find out how to get involved with Pride Cymru throughout June here
