Sportsshoes.com to sponsor Elite Mile at Cardiff Cross Challenge
Online retailer for run, gym and hike Sportsshoes.com will sponsor the Elite Mile at the prestigious Cardiff Cross Challenge this November.
The 2023 Cardiff Cross Challenge will return this year for its 26th event and will take place in Llandaff Fields, Cardiff on Saturday 11 November.
For the third year in a row, the Cardiff Cross Challenge has achieved the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold Label and is the only Cross-Country event to do so in the UK. It will also form part of the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series and the second fixture of the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League.
As part of the sponsorship agreement, Sportsshoes.com will be providing prize money for the top three winners in the men’s and women’s Elite Mile. These two races are new additions to this year’s schedule and will be an important race for those athletes looking to compete at the European short course trials two weeks later in Liverpool.
CEO of Welsh Sports Association (WSA) member Welsh Athletics, James Williams, stated:
“This is the biggest and best Cross-Country event in the UK, and we have ambitions to grow it further. We are always looking to align with partners who share our ambitions to give athletes the best possible experience and to help drive up the standards of performances across the UK.
“It has been clear throughout our discussions, that Sportsshoes absolutely share these ambitions and we are delighted to have them on board once again.
“The introduction of the Elite Mile is another exciting introduction to the Cardiff Cross Challenge, hopefully any athlete who has ambition to compete at the European Cross Country Champs will have this event firmly fixed in their race plan this autumn.”
Early entries for the Cardiff Cross Challenge include Olympian and former winner Jess Warner-Judd, 2023 5,000m U23 Champion Megan Keith, and Ethiopia’s Likina Amebaw, winner of the Cross Das Amendoeiras in Albufeira.
The men’s race is set to feature Cross Country specialist Zak Mahamed, 1500m man Matt Stonier, and 2021 World 1500m U20 Champion Vincent Keter of Kenya with further international entries from Ethiopia, Hungary, Ireland, Kenya, Morocco, Netherlands, Sweden, and Uganda.
