Commercial Manager
Tom joined WSA in 2018 as our Business Development Manager. As well as being responsible for all member applications and partner agreements for the organisation, he is also instrumental in developing money-saving and income-generating opportunities for members.
In touch with members on a daily basis, he is perfectly equipped to facilitate engagement across the sector, gathering insights and horizon scanning for opportunities and challenges that may lie ahead.
Keen on continually searching for ways to improve efficiencies, provide support, improve the resilience of the sector and add quality to business services, Tom sits on a number of groups to ensure voices are heard and actions are subsequently taken. He is in regular dialogue across the sector between traditional national governing bodies of sport, facility and leisure operators, educational institutions, third sector bodies and commercial operators.
Tom’s passionate about working with members on wide-ranging enquiries and delivering a solution or service to meet those needs, which in turn also adds value to their organisation. He is also always reminding members to make use of the WSA members section on the website where there are tools, governance resources, free helpline services and discounted partner offers too.
“It’s important to highlight that in recognition of their founder member status, Welsh Governing Bodies of Sport are permitted to share their member benefits with their own non-for-profit member clubs – so if you’re a not-for-profit sports club, check with your NGB as you’ll likely be able to access our services for FREE through them.”
With international experiences in Boston and Australia under his belt during previous roles, Tom brings a wealth of business development experience from the B2B, B2C and charitable sectors to WSA. His background is in digital, working on the agency side – developing relationships, understanding customer requirements, scoping technical solutions and implementing strategic recommendations. Clients that Tom has worked with include: Carluccios, Eat Natural, Sweaty Betty, BLESMA, IMG Media, Next, AoC Sport and Crew Clothing.
Tom is passionate about all sports – specifically football, squash and scuba diving – and has set a goal to participate in each of our members’ sports as part of #TomsChallenge
“If you’re an organisation in the sport and leisure industry in Wales and looking for guidance on the phased return to sport, the ramifications of Brexit, or just looking at ways to make savings and improve efficiencies across your organisation, then it’s worthwhile getting in touch and becoming a member. We estimate that WSA membership offers an initial value of £5,000 to members and that doesn’t even include the discounted partner services available!”
