WSA joins BASIS, with WSA members also in line to benefit
The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) has joined the British Association for Sustainable Sport (BASIS), with WSA members also being able to benefit from their wealth of resources.
BASIS has provided expert help to sports clubs, venues, and governing bodies for over a decade, helping them to understand their impacts, set targets and implement processes to improve their environmental performance.
The organisation’s vision is to harness the power of sport to build a sustainable future with a mission of empowering sport in the UK to become a world leader in sustainability with the urgency dictated by science.
As a member of BASIS, organisations can take advantage of a wealth of resources as well as reduced ticket prices for their events and conferences.
These resources can support members to implement best practice and sustainable development principles, as well as providing access to a network of 800 members, affiliates and partners with the same, collaborative vision in mind.
Members of BASIS are also able to benefit from special deals on sustainability training and venue certification, as well as invitations and discounts to vital, sector-wide events.
These resources are also available to affiliated members. Therefore, organisations across the sport and leisure sector can take advantage of these benefits courtesy of their WSA membership.

WSA CEO, Andrew Howard, commented:
“The need for urgent change to make sport a more sustainable industry is well documented, and November’s WSA Sustainability in Sport Conference not only highlighted the sector’s potential to be a driving force to a more sustainable future in Wales, but also its desire to be just that.
“It was a perfect platform for organisations across Wales and beyond to showcase the work already happening, the work still to do, and the power of sport to contribute to essential sustainability targets.
“The WSA is thrilled to support members in their sustainability journeys, and our membership with BASIS represents another step and bank of resources for Welsh sporting organisations to utilise in that mission.”
Dom Jordan, General Manager at BASIS, added:
“We are delighted that WSA has joined as a BASIS member and we look forward to welcoming them to the BASIS community and supporting them on their sustainability journey.”
