Helen Humphrey MBE
Everyone at the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) would like to congratulate our friend, colleague and former chair Helen Humphrey on her receipt of an MBE in this year’s New Year honours list. Helen was selected for her incredible contributions to Welsh sport. She has long championed Welsh sport, our members and the WSA and remains an advocate for Welsh sporting excellence. Helen served an invaluable role in developing the WSA to the organisation we are today.
Helen Humphrey MBE said of her award :
“I am honoured and humbled to receive an MBE in the New Year Honours list. That’s not a sentence I ever thought I’d be saying! When I was growing up, sport gave me so many skills that were immediately transferable to the workplace and helped to accelerate my career.
“So when I retired from my 29 year career with McDonald’s, it seemed natural to choose sport as the area where I volunteered. Encouraging and supporting women and girls into leadership positions has been something that I have championed throughout my career and I have had the opportunity to work with and mentor some amazing women during my 12 years of volunteering in sport and business in Wales.
“I hope to continue encouraging and supporting these women, and many other women, to fulfil their potential in the coming years. Volunteering has been so rewarding for me over the years – but this award really is the icing on the cake.”
Lynn Pammett, the current Chair of WSA who served on the board with Helen said:
“On behalf of the sports sector in Wales and on behalf of the Welsh Sports Association. I would like to congratulate Helen and thank her for her outstanding contribution to Welsh Sport.”
