Regional Development Manager (South Wales) – FAW

Purpose of Role 

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, strategic and systematic thinker who can implement national strategy and regional development plans to support the delivery of football across South Wales in partnership with Area Associations in the South Wales region. 

The Regional Development Manager will act as the key contact point for each Area Association (West Wales FA, South Wales FA & Gwent County FA) supporting with strategy development, governance and regulatory matters including data compliance, football development, registrations, safeguarding, discipline and volunteer education. 

The successful candidate will operationally manage a regional team of multi-discipline FAW staff as well as managing relationships with regional partners i.e. Local Authorities, Sport Wales regions, etc. 

This person will have exemplary attention to detail and will work as part of a team that is responsible for delivering the FAWs strategic aims and objectives. 


Key Areas of Accountability/Responsibility

  • Operationally manage a regional team of multi-discipline FAW staff including 4 x Participation Officers and 4 x Club Developers. 
  • Lead and coordinate internal regional football development hub meetings for South Wales.
  • Establish strong relationships with Area Associations and local league organisers to support the development of sustainable and appropriate competition.
  • Produce data and insight reports that identifies trends in registered playing numbers. 
  • Work closely with the Cymru Football Foundation, to establish strong relationshsips with Local Authorities, supporting the development of local plans that will link clubs to facilities and identify priorities for investment.  
  • Managing tactical approaches and overseeing operational delivery through local agents and experts by identifying workforce needs. 
  • Establishing and developing positive relationships with regional stakeholders and partners essential for the successful delivery of team priorities.
  • Provide specific development support and guidance to Area Associations, clubs and leagues to achieve team priorities.
  • Act as the point of contact for Area Associations in the region (WWFA, SWFA, GCFA) managing local and regional advocacy and communication. 
  • Support development of delivery partners capability/capacity to deliver outcomes.
  • Provide influence and technical advice across the region on strategic priorities with guidance from National Strategic leads.
  • Fostering cross functional collaboration with other FAW teams to support the delivery of shared goals and objectives. 
  • Supporting budget development, management and monitoring relating to team priorities and activities.

Person Specification

Essential: Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge / Behaviours

  • A minimum 3 years experience of line managing multi-discipline teams.
  • Significant experience of budget development, management and control. 
  • Professional expertise and experience in the areas of sports or football development.  
  • A thorough understanding of the Welsh grassroots football landscape.
  • Experience of working with and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders; including fostering collaborative relationships to meet shared outcomes. 
  • Exemplary attention to detail including good planning and organisional skills.
  • A minimum 3 years experience of strategic planning and implementation, including experience of interpreting data and insight to evidence needs and develop action.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Analytical approach to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Ability to inspire and get the best out of people.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with or as part of a league structure is advantageous. 
  • Creative thinker who can shape strategies into tactical solutions. 
  • An innovative approach to developing new opportunities. 
  • Good written and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated, resilient, self-directed and robust. 
  • Modern IT competencies. 
  • You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required.

Role Specific Requirements

  • The post holder will often be required to perform their duties or additional work or attend training outside of normal office hours and/or in different locations, either domestically or internationally, at the discretion of the Head of Grassroots.
  • The ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous. 
  • The role will require regional travel so a full, clean driving licence is essential (a company car will not be provided).
  • The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and two professional / personal references, to the satisfaction of the FAW. 
  • In addition, the FAW will ask to see evidence of right to work in the UK.
