How EMD UK will benefit from WSA membership

EMD UK are the national governing body for group exercise across the United Kingdom, and a part of the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) membership base.

The organisation’s strategic direction is focussed on being the go-to organisation for instructors, fitness organisations, and the media for expert advice about all things group exercise.

“We have revised our strategy to focus on providing quality membership offers, content and resources as well as ongoing help and advice to group exercise instructors, supporting them at every stage of their career,” EMD UK Chief Operating Officer Shelley Meyern told the WSA.

“We want all group exercise instructors to see EMD UK as their home.”

EMD UK work towards playing a lead role in tackling the inequalities that exist for both the group exercise workforce and participants, to ensure the sector delivers inclusive and accessible opportunities.

Through WSA membership, EMD UK will be supported in their mission here in Wales.

“We hope that WSA membership will help support us by ensuring we are well placed within Wales to do this work,” Shelley commented, “and by allowing us to engage with the right partners, and, importantly, agree with the key agencies in Wales what our role should be to support this important workforce.

“During the pandemic our work increased across Wales,” she continued. “We delivered on guidance around return to play provision, but we want to take a lead role and, importantly, an agreed role within Wales.”

The WSA provides a variety of advocacy and business development services to its membership base, to ensure that the sport and leisure sector as a whole remains as resilient and prosperous as possible.

Shelley added, “Through membership, we are looking for support to engage with the right people and bodies to cement our role as the national governing body for group exercise in Wales.

“As the voice of group exercise,” Shelley concluded, “we are keen for the WSA to support us to represent and empower those working in, or wanting to work in, our sector.”
