Welsh Sports Association set to host inaugural WSA Sports Industry Awards

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is delighted to be hosting the first WSA Sports Industry Awards on Thursday 8th June.

The event will take place at Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel, bringing together Welsh sport and leisure to celebrate the very best in our sector and share best practise among the WSA membership base.

From the 24 nominees, eight WSA Members will be recognised for their outstanding initiatives and work across a range of areas with the awards.

We will be recognising the impact of our members’ work across a range of areas, from the promotion of women in sport to sustainability initiatives – our commitment to which is reflected by the eco-friendly bamboo trophies that will be handed out to our winners.

The WSA is also thrilled to be reuniting with partners as well as the Welsh Government, including the Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism Dawn Bowden MS, who commented ahead of the evening:

“These awards are an opportunity to recognise the tremendous contribution that the nominees have made – and the award categories recognise that sport and leisure plays an essential role across a wide range of issues from promoting diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and the wider impact on society.

“The Welsh Government is committed to promoting equal access to sports, and support talented athletes, as it is vital, we reach as many people as possible to impact positively on their physical and mental wellbeing. We are also committed to continue to improve the facilities throughout Wales, ensuring equal access across as many communities as possible.

“I’d like to congratulate all the nominees and wish them the best of luck.”

WSA CEO Andrew Howard added:

“The team has worked long and hard to launch the inaugural WSA Spors Industry Awards, so we are thrilled to be hosting an event that has garnered such a buzz from across our sector.

“It’s so vital to recognise the excellent work that happens off the pitch, and often behind closed doors in sport and leisure, so we are delighted to be able to bring the sector together and share best practice from across our membership base.

“In hosting this event and showcasing the very best of our members, we are not only enhancing Welsh sport, but also demonstrating that sport is a great vehicle to enhance Wales and to achieve its well-being goals.

“We look forward to seeing a great mix of our Members on Thursday, as well as catching up with partners, Sport Wales and the Welsh Government.”
